ACADEMY LECTURE: FLORIDA MARITIME HISTORY

February 8, 2018 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

“FLORIDA MARITIME HISTORY”
Thursday, Feb. 8 • 1-2 p.m.
WESTMINSTER TOWERS & SHORES
Stan Zimmerman

The palette of Florida’s history is drawn on its waters. The men and women who sailed them are the subjects of this lecture. It is composed of tales that turn on sleeping sentries and a maddened gardener; tales with the imprint of emperors and kings, generals and admirals, heroism, and cowardice. We’ll discuss canoe makers, U-boat captains, Teddy Roosevelt, and a near-crazy Cuban who thwarted the burning of Tampa.

Lectures sponsored by Westminster Towers & Shores are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is suggested for the general public. Please call, 941-309-5111; or go online to www.rclla.org
