FA18-56 THE SYMPATHETIC EYE: THE ARTIST AS NARRATOR OF SOCIAL CHANGE
Friday: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
1 Session: Oct. 19
TEMPLE BETH SHOLOM
Andre Krauss

In this workshop, we will review and discuss therepresentations of rural and urban workers’ daily lives in European art from the 17th to the 20th centuries, as well as images depicting these workers’ historical struggle to improve their social conditions. In this context, we shall approach art, not as an aesthetic object, but rather as a contemporary historical document. We shall analyze narrative paintings as well as prints and popular imagery, positioning the artist as a witness to the society which he portrayed.
Silver Member: $55; Gold Member: $49.
