Method: Shared inquiry discussion allows everyone to read and enjoy great works of literature. Discussion is
based on the text at hand and only that text.
Material: The text is from the “Great Books Reading and Discussion Program,” Vol. 2 and 3 and copies for each reading will be distributed one week in advance. For the first week’s assignment, students can stop by the OLLI at Ringling College (Room 21) to pick up a copy.
Assignment: Prior to the first class, please read, “The Wealth of Nations” by Adam Smith. Additional readings this term are: “Antony and Cleopatra” by William Shakespeare; “The Knight of Faith” by Soren Kierkegaard; “The Persian Wars” by Herodotus; “Of Civil Government” by John Locke; “Gulliver’s Travels” by Jonathan Swift; “Civil Disobedience” by Henry David Thoreau; and “My Antonia” by Willa Cather.
