SP19-17 CONTEMPORARY VOICES IN LATIN AMERICAN CINEMA

This class examines exciting and innovative cinematic movements in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Chile. Various topics to be discussed include the national and transnational nature of these cinemas, genres, and historical factors which have shaped them. Students will be asked to view each weekly film in advance to facilitate classroom discussion in a roundtable format. Films may be obtained from various sources, including online and the county library. The first session will be an overview of the films to be screened during the term (there is no required screening). A list of films, below, will be provided during the first class and available to download here.
Silver Member: $90; Gold Member: $81.

In class discussions and scene analysis will include the following directors Fernando Solanas (Argentina); Kleber Mendonca Filho and Walter Salles (Brazil); Emilio Fernandez, Luis Bunuel,  Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuaron, and Mariana Chenillo. (Mexico); Pablo Larrain and Patricio Guzman (Chile)’ and Claudia Llosa ( Peru).
