March 14 @ 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM

SP19-40 SARASOTA AND THE 1893 CHICAGO WORLD’S FAIR

Thursday: 9-10:20 am
1 Session: Mar. 14
ELLING EIDE CENTER
8000 S. TAMIAMI TRAIL
Benita Stambler

Although Sarasota was just a fishing village in 1893, the lives of some of its later significant citizens were affected by the World’s Columbian Exposition. The legacies of Bertha Palmer, John Ringling, and Elling Eide were influenced by the Fair’s art, architecture, and commercialization. It occurred at a pivotal time, when the country was grappling with issues of gender and racial inequality, colonialism, and the place of America in the wider world. NOTE: This class will be held at the Elling Eide Center, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, to take advantage of its exhibition focused on the Fair.
Silver Member: $30; Gold Member: $27.
