This course combines history, politics, and medicine involving U.S. presidents: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Woodrow Wilson, and Abraham Lincoln. Class discussions will include: FDR and the New Deal; Eleanor; polio; World War II; hypertension; Yalta; Truman and the atomic bomb; Korea; Gen. Douglas MacArthur; Dewey; Berlin; NATO; strep throat; Nixon and the Kennedy debates; Vietnam War; Watergate; impeachment; Halloween Massacre; Nixon’s pardon; Ford and football; Navy; Congress; Ford meets Mao; assassination attempts; headache and stroke; Wilson and Princeton; Ellen and Edith; World War I; Treaty of Versailles; TIA, stroke; Lincoln and depression; slavery; Civil War; Gettysburg; Emancipation Proclamation; 13th Amendment; John Wilkes Booth; and assassination.
