SU19-16 THE SARASOTA SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE (Summer)

Friday: 10 am-12 pm; (Note: Extended Class Time)
1 Session: May 10
TEMPLE BETH SHOLOM
Karin Jones

After World War II, during a pivotal time in Sarasota, world-class architects gathered here to create an innovative style of architecture. For two decades they experimented with new technologies that merged the international styles of Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius with Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Organic” American architecture. This course will trace the roots and legacy of the award-winning buildings we now call the “Sarasota School of Architecture.”

NOTE: Before the first class, the instructor recommends reading, “From Bauhaus to Our House”
by Tom Wolfe (available from online vendors).
Silver Member: $30; Gold Member: $27.
