W19-81 EXPLORING THE SOLAR SYSTEM—AND BEYOND
Thursdays: 1-2:20 p.m.
3 Sessions: Feb. 14-Feb. 28
TEMPLE BETH SHOLOM
James Livingston

Our exploration of the Space Age will begin with the early rocket pioneers, Robert Goddard and Wernher von Braun and his World War II V-2 rockets. Next, we will look at the Space Race to the moon, from Sputnik to the Apollo project. NASA and other agencies have sent numerous ships into space, exploring the planets, moons, asteroids, and comets in our solar system. Finally, we will discuss the search for exoplanets, planets beyond our solar system. But until “Star Trek’s” warp drive is developed, these studies will be conducted by telescopes, not spaceships. Recommended resources for the course are “Solar System” by Marcus Chown and “Destination Mars” by Rod Pyle.
Silver Member: $60; Gold Member: $54.
