From the 14th to the 17th century, the Renaissance was regarded as the cultural bridge between the Romanesque/Gothic Age and modern history. The Renaissance started as a cultural movement in Italy during the Gothic Age and later spread to the rest of Europe, thus marking the beginning of the Modern Age. The Renaissance signified a new age of humanism, disputation, and dialog and ushered in a new era of art, architecture, politics, science, and literature. We will examine why this era was crucial in bridging the gap between the Middle Ages and modern-day civilization.
