“WHY ANCIENT HISTORY MATTERS”

1-2:30 pm • Wednesday, March 20
ANNA MARIA ISLAND LIBRARY
5701 MARINA DRIVE
Lectures are free and open to the public.
David Miano

Why study ancient history? It seems so distant, so removed from our own experience, so…unimportant. Surely, you’ve heard people dismiss a piece of information with the words, “Oh, that’s ancient history”? The implication is that something that happened a long time ago has far less relevance for those of us living in the present than something that happened recently. Ancient history has had far more, not less, impact on our modern lives than recent history. In this lecture, we’ll consider the importance of ancient history in the modern world and consider why the study of ancient history is far more than just a hobby.
