Jim Aaron flyer.pagesOn Jan 20, 2014 the five veto powers of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1) and Iran began implementation of an interim nuclear accord. Known as the Joint Plan of Action (JPA) it is intended to be a trial period pending a final, comprehensive agreement within six months. The goal is to insure the world that Iran does not and cannot achieve nuclear weapons or the means to acquire them.

During the six months of the JPA, it will be monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and they are obligated to produce a monthly report. Overall responsibility for the program remains with the UN Security Council.

Needless to say, this Plan of Action has produced a broad mix of optimism, skepticism, and outright opposition.

This week Einstein’s Circle moderator Jim Aaron will talk about the background of the Iranian nuclear program leading up to the interim accord, the framework for a final agreement should it come to pass….. and what it means if it doesn’t. Having spent many years living, working and traveling in this volatile part of the world, Jim returns on Wednesday for a long-awaited discussion.
